A MESSAGE FROM OUR PREZ

msotw9_temp0

First of all, my thanks to the club members and family (listed elsewhere in this issue) that went out on their own initiative and took down and removed the fences, tables and mowers, etc. at our Lyman field on April 5th and 6th. John Eades has made other trips to the site and removed most of the remaining items (trash/junk) and further broke down the shelters into transportable sizes that could be used by other club members.

As if that weren't enough, John E. and his 'Field Acquisition Group' scouted most of the flats and valleys and have come up with a potential new flying field site in the area between Hwy 9 and Sterling Rd, south of Hwy 20 & north of the Skagit River. Quite a few members have had a look at the area by now. It has promise and we'll have more info to discuss at the May 14th meeting before we 'bite the bullet' so to speak.

See you there, Jim

This is a list of the participants that helped take down the fence and some other objects on an impromptu workday at the Lyman field April 12. ( date in question).

Larry & Kathy Mulholland,  Jerry Odell,  Chuck Bulfinch,  Paul McDill,  Dennis ( John Eades friend ),      Robert Carpenter,  Ted Hendrickson,  Bob Haug,  Don Belisle,  Patrick Belisle & Grandson Brandon,          Walt Gerfin,  Bobby Greer & wife Amanda

(And oh,  who was that other fellow???)  oh yes,   John Eades

Sunday more work got done.  I was sent an e-m of the names that were there but accidently deleted.  I believe they were:  Bobby, Russ and Mike

Too bad there were not more pilots interested enough to go and see the proposed field.  From what I understand about 50% of the membership showed up.  In order to see the field you must go thru John Eades, as access is a bit tricky.

SKAGIT RC CLUB MEETING MINUTES, 9 APR 2008

President Jim Carpenter called the meeting to order at 1930 hours. The meeting was held at the Mount Vernon Senior Center.

Total Attendance: 17. .

Club Purpose Article II, Club Constitution: 1. The objective of the organization shall be to provide instruction, organization, and promotion, operation sites, safety, and camaraderie for radio controlled model aviation enthusiasts. 2. The membership shall endeavor to maintain good relations with all local authorities and citizens wherever they go and to maintain safety and cleanliness at all operating sites…AND TO HAVE FUN

Minutes: It was moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes from the meeting of 12 March 2008.

Treasurer Report: The balance for the period ending 30 March 2008 was given and accepted.

Field Report: The Kaaland property on which we have our Flying Field has been sold. The new owner has ordered us to vacate the site. Jim Carpenter has written a check for $250.00 to the Kaalands. The check is to cover the rent of the field for a period of two (2) months. The $750.00 check that the Kaalands have been holding pending the closing of the property sale will be destroyed.

Several club members have been researching possible sites for a replacement Flying Field. These were presented to those in attendance for consideration. After some discussion by the group, John Eades recommended that an organized and systematic approach to finding a new site was needed.

John Eades will head up the “Field Acquisition Committee.” Other members are Bobby Greer, Jerry Odell, Bob Haug, and Russ Brooks. They will collect, coordinate, and prioritize information on potential sites. They will have independent meetings as needed to review information and refine the data categories signifying the site quality and probability or any other metric appropriate to evaluate the site.

Work Parties will be needed to remove, store, and dispose of all Club Property from the Kaaland property.

Scheduled Events for the year will be cancelled when the time arrives if no alternate site has been identified.

Club Web-Site: Bobby Greer passed a map around to the group showing that there have been “hits” on the site from Worldwide Locations over an eight (8) hour period. It was moved and seconded that Bobby pursue the possibility of sponsors for the Web Site.

Details of the sponsorship arrangements will be approved by Jim Carpenter

Arlington Eagles Club: Joe Goffin, a member of the Arlington Eagles as well as our club, described in some detail the Eagles Flying Site. He extended an invitation to anyone interested to visit the site and/or become a member of the Arlington Eagles.

Other clubs in the area have extended an invitation to the Skagit Club members to visit their Flying Sites.

Raffle: The door prize was won by Bob Haug and the fuel by Joe Goffin.

Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at approximately 2030 hours.

Next Meeting: The next meeting will be at the Mount Vernon Senior Center on May 14th at 7:30 pm.

Submitted, Don Schlumberger, Secretary
